Action Needed: Push Back on BCBSM’s New Payment Reduction Policy

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) announced a new Multiple Therapy Procedure Reduction (MTPR) policy in the April 2025 edition of The Record. Effective April 1, 2025, BCBSM is reducing reimbursement for second and subsequent therapy services (or units) provided on the same day. This applies to chiropractors, MDs, DOs, and PTs.

This harmful payment cut threatens patient access, practice sustainability, and the future of small and mid-sized clinics across Michigan.

Why It Matters:

BCBSM holds the largest market share in Michigan. When they make unilateral cuts, providers are left with few choices: accept lower payments or risk exclusion from critical networks. The ripple effect is significant—fewer services, longer wait times, reduced staff, and fewer care options for patients.

  1. Submit a Provider Impact Letter:

We’re asking all Michigan chiropractors to participate in a provider letter-writing campaign. BCBSM needs to hear directly from you about how this policy harms your practice and your patients.

We’ve created a customizable letter template to get you started. Be sure to personalize it with specific data and stories from your clinic—examples include:

  • Reduced access to care or appointment availability
  • Staffing or hour reductions
  • Threats to your clinic’s long-term viability

Important: Do not include protected health information (PHI) or actual fees/dollar amounts.

Here’s how to submit your provider letter:

*Please note: This email address is for provider letter collection only. Patient letters should be submitted by the patient directly to BCBSM.  For insurance questions, email info@chiromi.com or stephanie@chiromi.com.

The MAC will compile and deliver all provider letters to BCBSM.

Let’s make our voices heard—this policy must be reversed. The more letters we send, the stronger our message. Stand up for your patients, your clinic, and our profession.
