The MAC has continued to hear from members that the BCBSM Multiple Therapy Payment Reduction (MTPR) policy is still being applied to code 97124 for MESSA patients, despite prior communication from BCBSM indicating that the reduction policy would be removed. BCBSM initially informed us that the change took effect in June 2025. However, after reviewing multiple claim examples submitted by the MAC, they identified that the reconfiguration had not been correctly applied.
BCBSM’s technical team is now working to fix the issue through additional system updates and testing. Once resolved, BCBSM has confirmed that all affected MESSA claims will be reprocessed automatically — no action is needed from providers. The MAC will update membership when more information becomes available.
