On November 4, 2024, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) informed providers of an issue where Medicare Plus Blue claims may deny in error with a message stating “invalid diagnosis code.” This problem stems from a delay in loading the updated ICD-10 codes into their claims system, impacting claims submitted on or after October 1, 2024.
At that time, BCBSM advised providers to hold claims denied in error until November 11, 2024, stating they would adjust affected claims once the issue was resolved.
Updated Information
Unfortunately, this issue is ongoing, and BCBSM continues to work toward a resolution.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Providers do not need to resubmit claims that were denied in error.
- You may continue billing claims during this time. (However, please be aware that claims may continue to deny in error until the system update is complete.)
- BCBSM will internally correct and reprocess claims denied in error once the system issue is resolved.
Updates will be provided to the profession as soon as more information becomes available from BCBSM.
